Animal management – it’s all in a day’s work for Lanes

The safe management of risks is of paramount concern for Lanes utility engineers – and that applies to bulls too!

Drainage engineers from Lanes’ Utilities Division, based at Stafford, had to share a field with a herd of curious cattle, including a bull, which turned out to be a big softy.

The team was surveying and cleansing a sewer which runs under the field near Stafford.

Utilities Contract Director Glyn Bickerstaffe said: “The farmer advised us that the bull was perfectly harmless, and he appeared to take an interest in what we were doing.”

In Wombourne, Staffordshire, it was horses that look a liking to the Lanes crews as they cleansed another sewer in a field.

Glyn added: “In rural areas we get used to working around animals. We always remember, it’s their home, not ours.”
