Lanes Group drainage engineers on the spot to help prevent fire pollution

Lanes Group drainage engineers are supporting the emergency response to a fire at a recycling centre in Pontyclun, Rhondda Cynon Taf.

The Celtic Waste recycling centre, where the fire started in the early hours of Tuesday 17 June 2014, is just a few metres from the South Wales depot of Lanes Group, the UK’s largest independent supplier of specialist utilities and underground pipe repair services.

Managers at the recycling centre have appointed Lanes to seal the site’s drainage system, to prevent water polluted by the fire from getting into natural water courses.

Damian Tranter, South Wales Area Development Manager for Lanes, said: “The waste recycling centre’s drainage system is now sealed.

“We are using one of our jet vac tankers to collect fire water from the system, so it can be taken to a registered waste transfer site for disposal.”
