Training

We’ve built our business around a strong health and safety culture and we’re absolutely committed to continued training. As a result, our safety record is second to none, and we’re very proud of that. It’s a reflection of just how much time and effort we put into ensuring the health and safety of our staff and systems, and we believe it’s one of the reasons for our fantastic success and growth.

At Lanes, we work to the 'four Cs' framework: Control, Communication, Commitment and Competence.

When it comes to staff, our Health and Safety team has it covered, in every respect. Training is an ongoing process which starts the day someone joins us, and continues right through their employment. We don’t just stick to the bare minimum either: you’ll find Lanes is always a step ahead when it comes to standards.

And if there is no suitable training available, we create our own. For instance, although our engineers have always undertaken the minimum safety standard training for our industry sector, we felt that it should be drainage-specific. So we developed our own foundation course in drainage operations, which has been approved by City and Guilds. Now Lanes' field engineers gain a professional qualification in drainage which covers customer care, technical drainage and the systematic application of working techniques. But we haven't stopped there: we're aiming to develop the course into a constituent part of an NVQ Level 2 Apprenticeship in Drainage Operations to be accredited by CABWI. Watch this space.
