Motorway drainage rehabilitation

Highways England maintenance partner Osborne needed to ensure highway drains along a strategically critical section of the M1 between the A406 North Circular Road and the M25 in Hertfordshire were working optimally. It was important to minimise the risk of flash flooding which would have caused road safety hazards and contributed to congestion. Osborne commissioned Lanes Group plc to carry out an intensive programme of work over five months involving drain desilting, CCTV drainage surveys and packages of drain rehabilitation based on the survey findings. All work was carried out at night under traffic management. The first part of the programme was completed during some of the harshest and coldest weather experienced in the UK in recent years.
