Lanes Group works with groundworks teams at prison site

Lanes Group has won contracts to provide specialist drainage services for all five groundworks companies working on the development site for the new North Wales Prison.

The company’s Chester depot is managing the work, which currently involves carrying out CCTV drainage surveys, drain cleansing and drain unblocking at the site on Wrexham Industrial Estate.

The prison is being built by Lendlease on the site of the former Firestone tyre factory on behalf of the Ministry of Justice, and is expected to give North Wales a big economic boost.

Ian Clapham, Area Development Manager for Lanes Group’s Chester depot, which is located in Bretton, Flintshire, North Wales, said: “Lendlease commissioned Lanes Group to carry out an initial survey of all drainage assets on the site.

“We are delighted that, as a result of that work, we have developed a good working relationship with the groundworks contractors now preparing the site for the construction of the prison.

“Our knowledge of the site, and the high standards of working practices expected by Lendlease, are proving helpful to the groundworks teams in delivering the drainage services they need, when and where they need them.”

As the UK’s largest independent drainage specialist, Lanes Group has the capability and capacity the project’s construction teams can rely on to ensure drainage work properly integrated with other work streams.

Lendlease has committed to spend £50m with small and medium businesses, £30m of that with local businesses, and says half of the construction workforce will be recruited locally.
