Lanes makes sure drainage is fit for exercise revolution

Drainage expertise from Lanes Group is helping the development of the latest health trend – getting fit on a budget.

The company is supporting design and build specialist Sivil Group as it works with Pure Gym to open its fitness centres across the south east of England.

Pure Gym is one of the fastest growing health and fitness companies in the UK, thanks to demand for its gyms, which are designed to be low-price and easy-access but high quality.

Sivil Group has been commissioned by Pure Gym to refurbish dozens of LA Fitness health clubs which the company bought in 2015.

Lanes Group’s London depot, in Rainham, Essex, is providing specialist drainage services as part of the refurbishment process.

Steven Murrells, Area Development Manager for Lanes London, said: “Making sure the drainage system is fit for purpose is an important element of any building refurbishment programme.

“This is often a timely opportunity to gain access to underground assets while fixtures and fittings are removed or being replaced. Considerations, such as service expansion, which put extra demand on drainage assets, also come into play.

“The HD-quality video and other structural data our CCTV drainage survey teams give the Sivil Group form a key part of the building handover process.

“It gives Pure Gym full confidence that, while their clients feel in need of a work out, the drainage systems of their new clubs are fighting fit.”

The Lanes Group drainage teams have been working on the new no-frills Pure Gym fitness clubs in Harlow, Essex, Borehamwood, in Hertfordshire, and North Finchley and Marylebone in London.

Drainage services delivered include CCTV camera drainage surveys, high pressure water jetting to desilt pipes and clear drain blockages, and colour dye drain testing.

This involved pouring non-toxic dye down toilets and sinks to check which underground assets they were associated with. At one location, a no-dig patch repair was also carried out. This involved a fibre glass inner sleeve impregnated with resin being installed remotely into a section of pipe to repair damage.

Steven Murrells said: “Our comprehensive range of services and national coverage allows Lanes Group to give full support for health and fitness and retail refurbishment projects like this.

“Being able to programme in service delivery, precisely when and where it is needed, to guaranteed standards, ensures complex rolling projects like this completed on time and on budget.”
