Lanes Rail wins contract to refurbish another Piccadilly Line bridge

Lanes Rail Division has won a contract from London Underground to refurbish a bridge over the Piccadilly Line in West London – the second commission of its kind in less than 12 months.

Work is due to begin in the next month on cleaning, repairing and repainting the pedestrian bridge in Rayners Lane, South Harrow.

It is being carried out under by Lanes Group’s Rail Division under its planned maintenance contract for bridges and structures contract with London Underground.

The brick, stone and steel bridge, linking Twyford Road and Karma Way, is an important route for local people to get to Rayners Lane underground station and local shops.

Lanes Rail operatives will repoint brickwork, replace steel strengthening bars, remove corrosion and ageing paintwork, install new waterproof wearing courses over steel floor plating and staircases, and repaint steelwork.

Project manager Steve Demwell said: “A key priority throughout the works will be to work closely with local people to reduce disruption to a minimum, and maintain access to the bridge for as long as possible while the refurbishment is being carried out.

“It is important that these rail bridge refurbishment works are completed to a high standard to maintain the fabric of the bridge and ensure it can be used safely by the many thousands of local people who rely on it every day.”

Last autumn, Lanes Rail Division completed the refurbishment of a pedestrian bridge over the Northern Line close to Finchley Central Station.

Lanes Group is the UK’s largest independent drainage specialist. These works reflect the company’s continued success in extending its services into other maintenance disciplines, especially in the rail sector.
