Young disability cricketers form guard of honour at top derby match

Disability cricketers sponsored by Lanes Group were invited to form a guard of honour at one of the top county cricket matches of the season.

They took part in the starting ceremony at the NatWest T20 Blast match between Middlesex and their closest rivals, Surrey, on Thursday 23rd July at Lords’.

Lanes Group sponsors the Middlesex County disability cricket squad, from whose members the 11 players from all teams were drawn to form the honour guard.

Paul Jones, Transport Manager for Lanes Utilities, based in Slough in Berkshire, whose son is a disability cricketer for Middlesex, said the young players really enjoyed the experience.

He added: “Being invited along to be part of such a high profile match shows that the disability cricket squad is part of team Middlesex, and its players are valued members of the club.

“The squad members had a great time, and were invited to the senior players’ lounge after the match to meet the players and have their pictures taken with them.

“The disability players were out on the pitch holding flags as the teams came out. There were 25,000 spectators at the match, which is one of the biggest derby games of the season. And, to top it all, Middlesex won quite convincingly.”
