Bee Clear is latest acquisition

Lanes Group plc has announced that drainage firm Bee Clear Group Limited of Plymouth is the latest business to join Lanes for Drains, the UK’s largest independent drainage specialist.

The Devon-based company becomes the south west branch of Lanes for Drains and brings the number of depots to 19. This latest move follows Lanes’ acquisitions of Total Drainage Solutions (Bedfordshire) and Clean A Drain (Surrey) at the end of last year.

The acquisition of Bee Clear by Lanes Group plc was completed on 7 April 2008, and the transformation into a pink-liveried ‘Lanes for Drains South West’ is currently underway with a move into new premises due at the beginning of July.

Ian Cameron, whose father established Bee Clear in 1986 after 12 years running a franchised operation, is excited about the company’s future under Lanes:

“Bee Clear had always been number one in Devon and Cornwall but was in need of some capital investment to keep up with the most advanced plant and equipment.

“Joining the Lanes Group meant that, almost overnight, we benefited from a whole raft of new kit. Since April we have already taken delivery of 6 new Lanes van pack jetting units, a mainline CCTV rig and two new crew cab tipper units for excavation are on the way, all at massive commitment of more than £500k. And we’re looking forward to having improved facilities when we move premises.

“Becoming part of Lanes will put us back up where we belong and allow us to give our clients an even better service,” adds Ian, who is now Lanes’ Regional Manager for the South West.

Speaking for the Group, managing director Wayne Earnshaw says: “We’re delighted to welcome Ian and his 22-strong team to Lanes.

“Bee Clear’s expertise and range of specialist services mirrors our own. It is even bringing us a new business area, specialist cleaning and other services for the marine industry, thanks to its historical association with the dockyard.

“Having an established company and staff there gives our clients in Devon and Cornwall that extra local support and expertise. And, because it has a good customer ethos, just like Lanes, we are very confident that the union will be a great move all round,” he comments, adding:

“But keep watching this space: there is still more news to come!”
