Health and education clients value complex site drainage expertise

Health and education providers in Lancashire are drawing on Lanes Group’s large site drainage maintenance expertise to keep their pipes flowing.

The drainage specialist’s Preston depot is working closely with a growing number of NHS and higher education services providers to ensure their drainage systems are in good working order.

Ensuring surface water and foul drainage pipes remain blockage-free is critical to service continuity in both sectors of public service, but perhaps most notably on hospital estates, says Lanes Preston Areas Development Manager Frank Hamlin.

He added: “Because of the intensive use of hospital sites, in terms of staff numbers, patients and regular visitors, hospitals put a significant amount of pressure on their drainage systems.

“Having in place an effective planned and preventative maintenance system is essential to prevent blockage or pipe damage issues becoming critical and adversely affecting patient services.”

Lanes Preston is delivering reactive and planned drainage maintenance services to multiple NHS estates across the city, supported by its teams’ expertise in carrying out drainage surveys and repairs in complex, live environments.

“As a national drainage service provider, our NHS clients value the health and safety procedures and policies we have in place to ensure the wellbeing of patients, staff and visitors comes first whenever we are working on their sites.

“We have the capacity to programme drainage maintenance work around their needs, avoiding times and locations where our work would disrupt the smooth delivery of patient care.”

Key drainage services delivered on NHS sites, including hospitals, include CCTV drainage surveys, drain blockage removal, high pressure water jet cleaning, and pump station cleaning.

The same attention to detail and proven quality standards is used to support drainage maintenance for university campuses, especially in the increasingly important sector of student accommodation.

Providing high quality accommodation for students is a vital element of the marketing strategy of all universities, and that includes ensuring toilets, showers and kitchen sinks are working at all times.

Frank Hamlin said: “Students how have high expectations of the quality of living space. We’re helping student accommodation providers achieve this through well-executed PPM programmes.

“We start with a thorough site drainage survey, then follow up with planned remedial work, which has included patch lining of damages pipes, a fast, no-dig technique that minimises disruption for students.

“Again, having the skills and experience of operating in live environments, where hundreds of students and university staff expect to be able to get on with their daily lives while drainage improvements are carried out, is invaluable.”
