Lanes gets ‘Gold’ and ‘Green’ awards from Royal Mail

For the third year running, Lanes for Drains has won a Royal Mail Group Property Gold Award for consistently outstanding performance.

The UK’s largest independent drainage specialist was also one of only three companies given a Supplier Recognition Environmental Award for its ‘green’ credentials.

Lanes picked up the Gold award for its drainage services to Royal Mail properties in an area stretching from South Yorkshire to Scotland and across to Northern Ireland. The contract includes planned drainage maintenance wherever there are interceptors for fuel pumps, fuel islands and vehicle washing facilities, and a reactive service for emergencies such as blockages to the external drainage system or fuel spillages.

Speaking for Royal Mail, FM Contracts Manager Jonathan Green said: “We set strict key performance indicators and Lanes achieved an overall average of over 90%.

“The Lanes’ team is very professional, from the call centre staff through to the frontline technicians. It is a smoothly run operation, but is also flexible and capable of reacting to clients’ needs without fuss. Yet again, the Gold award was well deserved.”

Commenting on the environmental accolade, Lanes Group H&S Manager John Glover declared himself ‘delighted’ that Lanes was the runner up. “There were only three awards given, so it is a real achievement,” he explained.

“Royal Mail is going all out to achieve carbon neutral status itself, so naturally demands a similar undertaking from its suppliers. Lanes also takes its environmental responsibilities very seriously and we were able to show that by our existing systems and procedures.

“From low-level activities like sensor-activated lighting in washrooms and car-sharing schemes to full scale recycling and capital investment in new generation technology — like our £300,000 water recycling tankers — we demonstrated clearly that environmental best practice can be achieved right across the business.”

Kim Wyatt, Assistant Manager FM Contracts for Royal Mail, added: This is only the second year of the Supplier Recognition Environmental Award but we had 22 nominations which indicates the importance that our suppliers place on environmental performance.”

“All the submissions were scored against a detailed matrix, and the top scoring organisations were visited by a panel. This allowed us to validate the results, and see and experience the company’s professionalism and culture for ourselves. In Lanes’ case, it was very impressive.”

Lanes intends to carry on the good work on both ‘gold’ and ‘green’ fronts, according to Royal Mail account manager, Nicki Caven: “Our contract has now been extended until 2010, and we plan to go for a fourth Gold award, so watch this space!”
