Lanes supports build for new Starbucks at ASDA supermarket
Drainage engineers from Lanes Group plc have carried out a CCTV drainage survey to support the construction of a new Starbucks store at an ASDA supermarket.
The national drainage and water utility specialist carried out the survey for AKN Build, which is building the new drive-through store in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, on behalf of EG Group.
A CCTV drainage survey team from Lanes Manchester surveyed an estimated 220 metres of surface water and foul drainage pipes to ensure they were clear and in good condition.
Lanes Area Development Manager Ian Clapham said: “We were very pleased to be asked by AKN Build to carry out the survey for a project that will improve amenities at the ASDA supermarket for shoppers and the wider community.
“A key benefit of our service is our ability to respond rapidly to client needs. This project demonstrated that. We could be on site to carry out the survey as soon as AKN Build needed us.
“Our digital job management and survey reporting systems allows us to provide survey reports with excellent, easy-to-understand data more quickly, helping customers make the best informed decisions that keep their challenging schedules on track.”
Leicester-based groundworks and construction contractor AKN Build is building the Starbucks store in the car park of the ASDA supermarket.
That meant a section of the car park’s surface water drainage system had to be surveyed to ensure it was clear and in good repair.
Pipe diameters ranged from 100mm to 225mm and most were plastic.
Lanes uses the latest remote-access robotic and push-rod CCTV camera systems to gather HD quality video images, supported by detailed data about pipe connections and flow directions, the type of pipes and their condition.
In February 2021, EG Group, based in Blackburn, Lancashire, along with private equity firm TDR Capital, completed a £6.8bn deal to buy ASDA from Walmart. In the same month, it announced a £750m deal to acquire ASDA’s fuel forecourt business.
