Lanes tanker crew to the rescue

When Aberdeen’s A90 flooded last weekend, it was Lanes for Drains to the rescue, thanks to a Lanes’ crew who happened to be passing.

The pair were on the way back from an emergency call out to a client whose premises had flooded, when the Police flagged down the tanker for help on Saturday afternoon, 6 July. A torrential thunderstorm had caused severe flooding on a stretch of the busy Aberdeen to Ellon road, so that the dual carriageway had had to be closed in both directions.

Lanes’ heavy duty machine was able to pump up 11,000-litres of flood water at a time before emptying the tank and returning to fill up again. The process continued for around three hours before, finally, the Police were able to re-open the road to traffic at about 6.45pm.

Ian Lyndsey, operations manager at Lanes’ Aberdeen branch, explained:

We don’t usually have a tanker on emergency standby at weekends, but when we got the SOS call, the two boys came in without any hesitation, even though it was their day off.

And of course they were more than happy to help Grampian Police and BEAR Scotland deal with the flash floods and get the road open again as quickly as possible.

“It’s exactly what I’d expect of them. When push comes to shove, these boys really are the dream team!
