Lanes Teams go many extra miles for record donation to Cancer Research

Hundreds of staff have contributed to a record total for the latest Lanes Group annual charity campaign.

Lanes employees responded wonderfully to the challenge and raised £4,061 and 10p for Cancer Research.

As Lanes Group pledged to match all staff donations, pound for pound, the total raised during 2014 was £8,122.20, which is the best fundraising achievement to date.

As always, staff were asked to nominate a charity, and then vote for the one they wanted to support, with Cancer Research winning last year’s ballot.

Cancer Research also won the 2015 vote, so will be Lanes Group’s charity for the second time in a row, the first time that has happened.

Lanes Group is one of the UK’s leading drainage and maintenance specialists, with 23 depots across the UK, delivering services to a wide range of commercial sectors, including utilities, rail, energy, construction and highways.

Lanes Group Managing Director Wayne Earnshaw said: “It does great credit to the whole Lanes team that such a large sum was raised for Cancer Research.

“We should especially thank the Lanes staff who took part in numerous events throughout the year to spearhead the fundraising activities.

“It appears that Lanes Group teams are an active bunch, because most of the activities involved running, often quite significant distances!”

For example, a team of nine runners from the Slough office of the Lanes Group Utilities Division ran the Reading Half Marathon.

Heidi Reed, from the Lanes Eastleigh depot ran the Race for Life with her family. Lanes Eccles Operations Manager Paul Lynch and his daughter took part in the Manchester Colour Run.

Women from the marketing and health and safety teams at Eccles ran the Tatton Park 10k Race for Life. While the head office team in Leeds were fully involved in Cancer Research’s Pink Friday.

Cancer Research UK Fundraising Manager Chloe Williams said: “Every two minutes, someone in the UK is diagnosed with cancer. With the help of Lanes Group staff, we’re working to fund research which will help more men, women and children survive.

“It’s fantastic that Lanes staff have raised so much money. The funds will go towards the charity’s research to beat more than 200 types of cancer, helping to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.”

The number of people being diagnosed with cancer is going up. However, the good news is that, thanks to research, survival rates have doubled in the past 40 years. More people across the UK are now beating the disease than ever before.

Cancer Research UK’s work is at the heart of that progress.

Cancer Research UK receives no Government funding for its ground-breaking research. So funds raised through supporters like Lanes Group is crucial to the work of 4,000 scientists, doctors and nurses who work with the charity.
