Lanes has a full division devoted to servicing the Rail industry, thanks to our long history working on the London Underground system and, more recently, the Network Rail infrastructure across the rest of the country.
Lanes Group Rail Division
Lanes’ association with the rail industry began in 1976 with a high pressure jetting scheme at one London Underground station. And we’ve never looked back. That small, but crucial, project set the company on course to becoming the rail contractor it is today, providing reactive and planned project works to the rail industry in London and beyond.
Today, Lanes Group’s Rail Division divides quite neatly into two sectors: Lanes, the multi-disciplined contractor, providing a wide range of rail asset management services for TfL and London Underground from our Rainham depot; and Lanes, the drainage specialist, which services the Network Rail infrastructure.
All Lanes’ rail contracts involving the London Underground system (whether for Transport for London, London Underground Limited or Tube Lines Limited) are managed by our London/Rainham depot. This comprehensive and wide ranging service goes far beyond drains. Here, an experienced and dedicated rail team provides rail asset management as a multi-disciplined contractor (click here for more information), including a 24/7 reactive service; preventive maintenance and given projects awarded under various framework agreements.
On the Network Rail infrastructure, we provide standard drainage services through our local depot network. This includes, for instance, blockage removals at railway stations; CCTV surveys of platform and station drainage; or cleaning and CCTV surveying of trackside drainage. Sewer or drain rehabilitation (reline) is directly undertaken directly by our specialist Sewer Renovation Division.

A specialist Rail team based at our Manchester hub also manages a rolling programme of rail culvert maintenance and asset condition surveys through Network Rail’s main contractor, Amco.
In an industry which moves with relentless predictability, changes have to be responded to quickly, effectively and professionally. That’s something we’ve built our business on. Our reliability to deliver means using a supply chain which is flexible, knowledgeable and resourceful in equal measure and ensuring that our people are too.
Little wonder, then, that the Lanes’ name is synonymous with rail projects which are delivered on time, to budget and, crucially, carried out to our exacting Health & Safety commitments.
