No need for alarm – the Lanes team is here to help

A Lanes Group London Rail contractor has been praised for calmly resolving two emergencies at the same time.

Locks and security technician James Hunt had been responding, late at night, to a call out to a maintenance task at Wimbledon Park Station in West London.

When he arrived, he found the fire alarm was going off and a passenger was stranded in a lift.

The station supervisor was having difficulty freeing the passenger, which was when James stepped in to help.

Using his experience working with locks, he was able to locate the correct lift door release key and free the passenger.

He said: “The station supervisor was under considerable stress with both emergencies occurring at the same time.

“Once the passenger was freed, I could explain how to reset the alarm which was a new system so not one she was 100% familiar with.”

The station supervisor was so impressed with James’s assistance, she contacted LG London Rail to express her thanks.

She said: “Mr Hunt helped me release someone who was inside a lift and I couldn’t have done it without his help.

“He was incredible and couldn’t have been more helpful, then he did his job efficiently and left.”

LG London Rail General Manager Andrew O’Connor said: “Supporting colleagues and working as a team is what being a rail worker is all about. James’s response showed expertise, professionalism and care for others.”

LG London Rail is Transport for London’s (TfL) main drainage maintenance contractor on the London Underground.

It also delivers facilities management services for TfL through a network of contractors. James Hunt works for YY Security, which delivers a locks, key cutting and alarms service.
