Lanes backs sports participation in football sponsorship deal
National drainage and wastewater specialist Lanes Group plc is delighted to support participation in sport by sponsoring a team at a community football club close to its Aberdeen depot.
The company has agreed a kit sponsorship deal with the Westdyke Community Club 2007s team.
The association goes beyond financial support as Lanes Aberdeen Area Development Manager Mark Morrice has become a coach at the club, based at Lawsondale Playing Fields in Westhill just outside Aberdeen.
Lanes Scottish Regional Manager, Brian Kerrigan, said: “We’re very happy to support a club that does such good work providing sports activity for more than 500 boys, girls, men and women from the age of four upwards.
“Westdyke CC is a pillar of the community. By supporting it, the Lanes Aberdeen depot can also demonstrate our commitment to delivering excellent services to businesses and residents in Aberdeen and across the North East of Scotland.”
Westdyke Community Club 2007s is a team of Under 16s boys and has players who have been with the club for from early childhood.
Westdyke Community Club is the largest club of its kind in the North East of Scotland by number of players and was the first in the region to be awarded a Platinum Legacy Quality Mark by the Scottish Youth Football Association, qualifying it for ‘Community Club’ status.
Benefits of sport
The focus is on encouraging participation, but the club has also enjoyed competitive success, with its Under-13s squad winning the Scottish Cup for the first time in the 2022-23 season.
Mark Morrice, once a keen junior footballer, wanted to get back involved in the sport as a coach rather than as a player. He took the Scottish FA Level 1 coaching course. This summer, the club sponsored him to pass the Level 2 course.
He said: “Having seen the fantastic work Westdyke Community Club does to encourage participation in sport for people of all abilities, I was very pleased Lanes agreed to sponsor one of its teams.
“Lanes wants to deliver great services and it also wants to be active participants in the local community. Backing the benefits involvement in sport brings, in terms of fitness, wellbeing and community spirit is a brilliant way to do this.”
The Lanes Aberdeen depot, in Minto Drive, Altens Industrial Estate, Aberdeen, delivers comprehensive drainage, wastewater and industrial cleaning services for Aberdeen, Dundee and the North East of Scotland.
They include CCTV drainage surveys, drain unblocking, sewer cleaning, sewer excavation and repair, sewer lining, off-mains tank maintenance, repair and replacement, and industrial pipe and tank cleaning.
