Big-hearted colleagues working for Lanes Group plc have braved gale-force winds and buzzing clipper blades to raise over £25,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Teams and individuals working at depots and offices across the UK for the UK’s largest independent drainage specialist, and sister company UKDN Waterflow (LG) Ltd, contributed to the fund-raising effort.

Macmillan Cancer Support had been selected by staff to be Lanes Group’s company charity for 2016 and 2017. Every penny collected through staff fundraising activities has been matched by Lanes.

Lanes Head of Marketing Michelle Ringland said: “We’re proud of the commitment shown by hundreds of individuals, from operational teams to company directors, in raising money for such a good cause.”

The Lanes charity campaign raised a total of £13,141.37 in 2016 and a further £12,243.18 in 2017, giving a grand total contributed to Macmillan Cancer Support initiatives of £25,384.55.

Colleagues committed themselves to a wide range of money-raising initiatives, from coffee mornings with tasty cakes to one female colleague having a sponsored tattoo.

James Hamilton and Davey Crumpton took part in Macmillan’s Brave the Shave, with both sponsored to have their heads shaved.

There were also opportunities for the brave-at-heart. Seven colleagues abseiled down 60m-high Bell Tower at the Trafford Centre.

A team of 14 Lanes personnel, led by Commercial Director Scott Norris, climbed the 913m-high Skiddaw mountain in the Lake District, raising £5,885 towards the 2017 charity total.

Michelle Ringland said: “Research shows one in two people born in the UK after 1960 will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime. Macmillan does brilliant work helping tens of thousands of those people and their families.”

“As a family-run business with a commitment to helping communities in which we deliver our services, we’re very pleased to be able to work together to give people a helping hand when they need it most.”
