Family Friendly Week Part 1 – Haylie Meert

Today we interviewed Haylie from Lanes Group’s Marketing Department:

Haylie’s expecting her first baby – and hopes she’ll be a natural

Haylie Meert is expecting her first baby – and she really hopes she will be a natural at being mum.

She says: “I want to be the kind of parent who does things naturally, based on what the baby needs, not doing things by numbers.

“I’m told it’s good to trust your instincts as a mother, and not think you have to do everything every expert says.

“I want to be relaxed, because I think that will help our baby grow up to be a confident, outgoing young child.”

Haylie, the tender bids controller in Lanes Group’s marketing department, agreed to tell all about her plans to become a parent to mark Family Friendly Week.

She married her partner-of-seven-years Paul, a prison officer, at a country house hotel in Wales on October 19.

Haylie explains: “We planned to get married, then have children. We booked the wedding in June. Then, a week later, I found I was pregnant.

“It was a bit of a surprise, but we decided we would carry on with our plans. With the wedding over, we can concentrate on getting ready for our baby.

“I just had to think a little harder about what style of dress I would have, with my growing bump!”

Haylie and Paul already know the sex of their first child – they’re having a boy, due on February 25.

She says: “We’ve got a favourite name. But we have others in reserve, just in case, when baby arrives, he doesn’t seem to fit the name we’ve chosen.”

Everyone in the Lanes marketing team, in Manchester, has been wonderfully supportive, says Haylie. “We haven’t had a marketing baby for some years, so everyone is excited.”

The only slight – and hairy – wrinkle in proceedings is Haylie’s two other ‘babies’. Because, she is already mum to two pet dogs, both pugs, called Harry and George.

Both attended the wedding, both wearing bow ties.

Haylie says: “I do love my dogs, and I do mother them. So, I am a bit concerned about how they will take to having a baby in the house.

“Knowing we were planning a family, we got George to keep Harry company while we concentrate more on the new a baby. And I’m told pugs are very good with small children.

“So, I’m sure things will be fine. It does mean I will be outnumbered by boys in the family by 4 to 1. But it’s too late now!”
