The World’s Weirdest WC is crowned as a shrine of lavatorial creativity

If you walked into the gents’ toilets in a quaint country pub, only to be greeted by three tubas in the place of urinals, would you stand there confused or throw caution to the wind and use them as toilets?

This is the winner of our World’s Weirdest WCs competition – a quiet pub in Ticehurst, East Sussex, with unashamedly wacky bathrooms. As well as a trio of Wagner tubas for urinals, sheet music is used as wallpaper for an authentic re-use of musical material.

The winner, Adam Wade, gets £250 of Amazon vouchers.

Last month, we asked you to send in pictures of the weirdest loos you’ve come across, and it seems there’s no shortage of strange lavatories in the world.

From curious metallic sculptures in Amsterdam to musical instruments with a new lease of life, via some rather unappealing reuses as drinking vessels in San Francisco, it seems there’s some even wackier examples of both public and private toilets than we ever anticipated.

Some are artistic, others are funny and a few even appear to come complete with high-tech pressure washers.

Take a look below at our favourite entries. Would you chuckle at their inventiveness, or hang onto it?

1. Taking recycling to a new level at a pub in Tycehurst, East Sussex. Wagner tubas as urinals and sheet music as wallpaper.

2. This drinking fountain in San Francisco might be a little off-putting for some.

3. An intriguing metallic sculpture in Amsterdam.

4. Only the brave are advised to use these urinals in a park in Bruges. With no female equivalent, women presumably have a trickier time if caught short.

5. It might be difficult to use this urinal at a pub in Bexley, south-east London, unless you imagine the face of someone you dislike around it.

6. The owner of this bathroom in Rochdale clearly wanted their plain white toilet to be more welcoming for visitors.

7. Need to carry on your conversation when you go to the loo? In Japan, you can go in pairs here. Strangers may find it a little awkward, though.

8. Why have air fresheners when you can just use The Fresh Prince, like this student house in Blackpool?

9. This high-tech electric toilet in Shanghai comes complete with a plethora of “cleansing” options. We suspect the wash, wax and spin cycles are on the other side.
