Unblocking a Toilet
When it comes to toilet blockages, there are a number of different fixes you can try before enlisting the help of Lanes. Usually, a blockage in toilet’s U-bend is the root cause, with two basic approaches through which you can rectify it – either manually remove it with a rubber gloved hand, or use an aggressive unblocking agent to push it through with repeated flushes.
Before you begin
Rubber gloves aren’t enough in isolation. We would recommend wearing protective glasses or goggles, and ideally covering the floor surrounding the toilet with towels or sheeting.
Consider the cause
If you know the likely cause of the blockage, and it’s something important – be it a colleague’s phone or any else of value – you have no choice but to reach in and retrieve it yourself. For unknown blockages, the cause is likely to be of a more natural composition – a build up of excess toilet paper, for instance – in which case, you can push it through into the system, wherein it is likely to break up when subjected to high pressures and larger volumes of water.
Next steps
If none of the methods mentioned above are successful, the blockage may be further along the system, in which case, your solution may lie in the use of a plunger or toilet auger – allowing you to pull or push the blockage into or out of the system for manual disposal.
When all of your options have been exhausted, or if you want a solution without having to try any of the above, Lanes is ready to step in with inspection and blockage removal services.
