Lanes drainage expertise supports highway schemes in Devon and Cornwall

Lanes Group engineers based at the company’s depot in Plymouth have been supporting drainage maintenance and development schemes on the highway network across Cornwall and Devon.

Teams have been out on main roads carrying out highways drainage maintenance work in Cornwall, as well as supporting a major road improvement scheme near Plymouth in Devon.

The highway drainage maintenance work has included cleaning roadside ‘v’ drainage in central Cornwall, and carrying out vacuumation of associated road-side gullies, says Lanes Plymouth operations manager Lee Huber.

He added: “Lanes Group has the largest and most modern fleet of jet vac tankers, including recycler jet vacs, in the UK, so we are ideally placed to support road drainage programmes covering large areas.

“We always have the right equipment and expertise ready to carry out highways drainage maintenance work like this in Devon and Cornwall.

“Our drainage engineers are experienced at working on highways, and we can schedule work programmes flexibly, either day or night, to ensure it is carried out with minimal disruption to the travelling public.”

Lanes engineers have also been providing road drainage support for a scheme to improve a major highway junction near Plymouth.

New roundabout slip roads are being constructed, resulting in new highways drainage pipes being installed, along with modifications to the current road drainage system.

Lanes Plymouth Area Development Manager Narelle Maben said: “We have been carrying out CCTV drainage surveys, as well as desilting of highway drainage, using our jet vac tankers in support of this work.

“We have successfully scheduled this work around the needs of the construction teams working on the highway improvements. First-time fixing and setting the highest health and safety standards are paramount.

“Much of the highway drainage survey and cleaning work carried out under strictly time-limited night-time road closures. Working closely with other contractors is essential for this kind of operation to succeed.”

The Lanes Plymouth depot provides a wide range of specialist drainage services to both commercial and domestic customers.

As well as highway drainage survey and cleaning support, the team carries out pipe patch lining, drainage excavations, including sceptic tank installation, large culvert cleaning, plus planned maintenance programmes for industrial, commercial, retail and leisure customers.
