Lanes staff raise thousands for Macmillan

Teams and individuals working for Lanes Group across the UK have raised over £6,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The money has been collected over 12 months for Macmillan which was selected by staff as the Lanes company charity for the year.

In total, the amount raised by staff fundraising activities was £6,575.26. Thanks to a pledge by Lanes to match every penny raised, the amount donated to Macmillan thanks to the annual charity drive is £13,151.

Lanes Head of Marketing Michelle Ringland said: “This was a fantastic team effort, and we’re delighted to support a charity that does such excellent work for people with cancer and their families.

“Our ethos at Lanes is to be helpful to the communities we serve in the widest possible sense. Our annual fundraising campaign, in support of a charity voted for by staff, is an expression of this spirit.”

Colleagues from Lanes and sister company UKDN Waterflow (LG) Ltd depots across the country contributed to the money raising drive.

For example, Scott Norris, Haylie Orton, Zoe Renshaw, Vicky Green, Chris Wilde, Andy Dudley, and Deborah Sutton, all abseiled down the 60m-high Bell Tower at the Trafford Centre.

James Hamilton and Davey Crumpton took part in Macmillan’s Brave the Shave, with both sponsored to have their heads shaved.

More money was raised through dress down days, Christmas jumper days, Bake-Off days, coffee mornings, sponsored runs, a gaming marathon, and an Easter egg raffle.

One intrepid colleague even had a sponsored tattoo. While staff at the Lanes HQ and depot had a sponsored ‘Wear it Pink’ day, in honour of the company’s bright pink livery.

Michelle Ringland said: “The serious bit was supporting Macmillan, so they can continue their work, helping people with cancer. The fun bit, and downright ingenious bit, was the methods used to raise the money!

“We’re now looking forward to raising money for another charity selected by staff in the year to come.”
